Bell's original telephone

Inventory number: T16 83.6.0.
Year of creation: 1876
Maker: Standard Villamossági Rt.
Location: Hall 1

The first telephone of Alexander Graham Bell was designed to operate on the magnetic principle. A beef's bladder has been spanned as a membrane over a cavity formed in an oak-wood sheet. The membrane was moved by the tongue of a coil above it. This tool, without the need of power supply, has been used both as a microphone and as a receiver. It had a working range of a few kilometers only.
