The exceptional visual telecommunication storage, which demonstrates telecommunication history, was opened in 2007 in Miskolc-Avas, in the former telephone centre building situated next to the Avas post office. Visitors can examine both mass produced and beautifully manufactured, unique telegraph and telephone models, along with various telephone centres and other telecommunication items in an extensive 600 m2 exhibition area. The glass-cases display clockwork-movement telegraphs, type keys, galvanic cells, telegraph tapes, as well as assorted hardwood or metal wall and table telephones. Exhibited items include Bell-type telephones, Deckert–Homolka-type wooden telephones, the models equipped with Berliner’s transmitters, the metal housed LB24 and CB24 configurations, and various bakelite and plastic covered telephones. The row of manually operated and automatic telephone centres recapture the atmosphere of a real life telephone hub, and permit hands-on participation for visitors. Transmission systems, power supplies and military telecommunication products extend the group of special exhibits. The operational machines, the design and technical equipment of the visual storage allow schools to hold education courses in the exhibition area.
